Rate Increase! Adult Dental Medicaid Reimbursement
Thu, 11/03/2022 - 1:42pm — TeethFirst
In summer 2022, the Rhode Island General Assembly authorized the
increase for adult Medicaid dental service rates for the first time since 1992. The cost of running a dental clinic, along with the cost of everything else, has increased substantially since 1992.
These new rates will better support dentist offices and increase their capability to accept adult Medicaid clients. This is important for many reasons:
-
Clients will have more options when looking for a dental home
-
Clients can receive consistent preventive dental services
-
Oral infection or mouth pain can be caught early and treated
The Executive Office of Health and Human Services (EOHHS) is committed to implementing the State’s mission to expand access to oral care services to all Rhode Islanders. The EOHHS is working to get the word out about the new rates and provide support to dentist offices, so they are ready to enroll as a Medicaid provider. Oral care is an important part of our overall health and wellbeing. This is the perfect time to utilize your dental benefits and get the care you deserve.
Clients can learn more about their Medicaid dental coverage on the EOHHS website. Private dentists who accept Medicaid can be found using
the EOHHS provider search. Once on the site, go to the “Type of Dentist” dropdown list and select Dentist. Please note this list does not guarantee the provider is currently accepting new patients. Services can also be accessed by scheduling an appointment at a Dental Safety Net clinic; a full list can be found in
English and
Spanish.
